I almost called this event the Unhappy Hour, but that would probably discourage turnout. Come out and congratulate our heroes, Isaiah Matos and Bill Buran, on a job well done. We're all going to need a drink or seven before this night is over.

Ari will be speaking about the Real ID Act and its implications for New Yorkers. This controversial legislation attempts to federalize state driver’s licenses by imposing regulations on their issuance and appearance. It establishes a system of government databases and electronic checkpoints that will, in effect, create America’s first-ever national identification system. The law will cost billions to implement, trigger bureaucratic nightmares, aid identity thieves, threaten privacy and stifle liberty. Since Congress passed it in 2005, Real ID has sparked intense, nonpartisan opposition throughout the country. Seven states have passed statues prohibiting implementation of Real ID, and 11 others have passed non-binding resolutions expressing opposition to it. The Manhattan Libertarian Pary and the NYCLU are both members of the New York Alliance Against the Real ID Act. https://www.RejectRe alIDNY.org/ Join us for conversation and updates on candidates and petitioning at 7:00 p.m., followed by our guest speaker at 7:30 p.m. Ukrainian East Village Restaurant 140 Second Avenue ( between 9th Street and St. Mark’s ) 7:00 Doors Open 7:30 Speaker 9:00 Drinks & discussion
